How to Upsell Remapping Services

12 December 2025

You've got a customer booked in for a Stage 1 diesel remap at £300. They're happy, they're committed, they're coming to you. That's the perfect moment to increase the job value — not by being pushy, but by showing them what else is possible for their car.

The Best Upsell Happens Before the Appointment

Don't wait until the customer is standing in front of you to mention additional services. The booking confirmation is your best upsell opportunity. When someone books a Stage 1, send them a message that includes:

  • Gearbox tuning — "Your car has a DSG gearbox that responds brilliantly to a remap. Most customers add this for £200 (normally £250 separately). Want me to include it?"
  • Related solutions — "I noticed your model commonly benefits from an EGR solution alongside the remap. Happy to discuss if you're interested."
  • Economy add-on — "Want me to focus the map on performance, economy, or a balance of both? The economy version typically saves 3-5mpg."

When a customer can see all available services for their car on your website — via a vehicle lookup tool — they often upsell themselves before you've said a word.

Package Deals Convert Better Than Add-Ons

Saying "do you want to add a gearbox tune for £250?" feels like an extra cost. Saying "most customers choose our Performance Package — Stage 1 plus gearbox tune for £450 instead of £550" feels like a saving. Same result, completely different psychology.

Create three tiers for your most common services:

  • Standard — Stage 1 remap, £300
  • Performance — Stage 1 + gearbox tune, £450
  • Ultimate — Stage 1 + gearbox tune + EGR solution, £600

Most people pick the middle option. That's 50% more revenue per job with zero extra marketing spend.

Educate, Don't Sell

The customers who buy the most are the ones who understand what they're buying. When you explain why a gearbox tune complements a Stage 1 — faster shifts, smoother power delivery, better real-world performance — it's not a sales pitch. It's expertise. And expertise is why they came to you instead of buying a £50 map off eBay.

Follow Up With What They Didn't Buy

Not everyone will upsell on the day. But the customer who said "maybe next time" to a gearbox tune is a warm lead three months later. A simple follow-up — "Hi Dave, been thinking about that gearbox tune? I've got a slot next Thursday" — closes more of these than you'd think.
